valutare-un-diamante

Diamond evaluations require proven technical knowledge of the precious stone and the industry’s worldwide market.

You will find this and much more at our offices:

  • we have established important and solid networks with other operators in the industry over three generations
  • we are present at the leading international diamond bourses (Antwerp, Tel Aviv, New York, Dubai and Mumbai)

How diamonds are evaluated
(diamond grading)

1) Firstly, we are capable of providing a general range of evaluation based on a series of information regarding the stone that can also be provided remotely; you will receive this evaluation via e-mail.

2) An appointment can be made to examine your stone, even if it is mounted: in this case, the range of evaluation may be more precise.

3) If you would like to receive an exact purchase offer, then we will proceed by unmounting the stone, without damaging the setting or the diamond itself. If, following the evaluation, you decide not to sell your diamond, please not that we will not be able to remount the stone in the setting

4) If, on the other hand, the diamond you wish to have evaluated is sealed in a blister pack, i.e. the security packaging in which diamonds are usually placed and which contains references to the certificate. Do not worry if the two are separated because the certificate is still valid even when the blister pack has been open (the blister is not the certificate)! Furthermore, nowadays the certificate number is engraved on the stone using a laser, precisely to deal with the blister pack issue when a stone is mounted. If your stone is not laser engraved, you still should not worry because our gemologists can check the correspondence between a diamond and its certificate by weighing and measuring the stone (all natural diamonds are unique, two identical diamonds do not exist).

Additionally, it is important for us to examine the stone out of the blister pack because that is the only way that we are able to classify its characteristics according to GIA standards and analyse the other characteristics of the diamond, not present on the certificate, but which are very important in commercial terms, such as an analysis of BGM (which in technical jargon refers to brown, green and milky defects).

Diamond analysis
and evaluation process

Our diamond analysis and evaluation process involves performing various technical steps including a detailed study of the intrinsic characteristics of the stone, preceded or followed by meticulous operations using ad hoc tools.

  • The diamond is cleaned in an ultrasonic bath;
  • A specific test is performed to see if the stone is actually a diamond;
  • The diamond is weighed using certified professional scales;
  • The analysis and determination of the purity and cut of the diamond is performed using a 10-fold magnification lens;
  • The fluorescence is analysed and determined.
  • The colour of the diamond is analysed. This step uses a “Colibrì – Sarin” digital colorimeter and GIA (Gemological Institute of America) certified diamonds to determine the colour grade;
  • The diamond is then measured using a digital proportionometer;
  • The stone is weighed again and returned to the customer;
  • The combination of all the characteristics analysed determines the value of the diamond.
